A withdrawal is a request to return prefunded assets from your Ripple-managed account to your registered bank account (for fiat currencies) or crypto wallet (for crypto currencies). Withdrawals are available only for accounts using pre-funding.

Available balance

Only your available balance is eligible for withdrawal. Your available balance is the portion of your prefunded assets that is not currently reserved for in-progress payments or held for other operational reasons. Funds that are in transit or reserved cannot be withdrawn until they are released.

Withdrawals vs. payment returns

A withdrawal is not the same as a payment return:

  • Withdrawal -- You initiate a request to retrieve unused prefunded assets. The funds are transferred back to your registered bank account or wallet.
  • Payment return -- A payment that was previously completed is reversed by a downstream institution or the beneficiary's bank. When this happens, the returned funds are credited back to your available balance in the Ripple Payments UI and are not automatically sent back to your bank account or wallet. Ripple and its payout partners manage payment returns; you cannot initiate them directly.

For more information about payment returns, see Payment returns.

Before submitting a withdrawal

Your bank account (fiat) or crypto wallet (crypto) must be registered with Ripple before you can submit a withdrawal request. For fiat withdrawals, Ripple requires your bank account details. For crypto withdrawals, Ripple requires your wallet address and proof of account.

Contact your Ripple representative if:

  • Your bank account or wallet has not yet been registered.
  • You want to update your registered account or wallet, or switch to a different destination.
Note

Withdrawals are not available in the UAT environment.
