# Add a bank account

Before your organization can use one of its bank accounts with Ripple, Ripple has to know the account belongs to you. Registering the account in the Payments Direct UI records the details and your proof of ownership. Registered accounts support funded payments, and they are on file as destinations for fiat withdrawals.

This guide takes you through registering an account, confirming it was recorded correctly, and removing one you no longer use.

For background on account limits, redemption accounts, and how the page is organized, see [Bank accounts](/products/payments-direct-2/user-interface/settings/bank-accounts).

## Before you start

You need permission to manage onboarding details for your organization. Without it, the Bank accounts page is not available to you.

Gather the following before you begin.

- The **Bank Account Name** and **Bank Name** to record for the account.
- The address of the bank branch that holds the account.
- Your organization's own address.
- Either the account number and routing code, or the IBAN and SWIFT BIC code, depending on which your bank uses.
- Your intermediary or correspondent bank details, if your bank uses one.
- A proof of ownership document: a bank statement showing the entity name, or a proof of ownership letter from your bank.
- Room within your account limit for the product. See [Account limits](/products/payments-direct-2/user-interface/settings/bank-accounts#account-limits).

## Register a bank account

To open the wizard:

1. Select the **Settings** gear icon.
2. Under **Transfers**, select **Bank accounts**.
3. Select **Add bank account**.
If your organization holds more than one product, choose the product the account is for. For Payments Direct, choose **Ripple Payments Direct**.

The wizard steps through five screens.

### Step 1: Account and bank name

1. Enter the **Bank Account Name** and the **Bank Name**.
2. Select **Next**.

### Step 2: Bank address

1. Enter the address of the bank branch that holds the account: **Street Address**, **City**, **State/Province**, **Country**, and **Zip Code**. Use **Floor, Suite, Room, etc.** for a second address line.
2. Select **Next**.

### Step 3: Customer address

1. Enter your organization's own address, using the same fields.
2. Select **Next**.

### Step 4: Bank details

1. Under **Account details**, choose the format your bank uses. Your choice determines which fields appear below it, so choose before you start filling anything in.
  - **Account Number, Routing/Sort, BSB, Additional requirements**
  - **IBAN, SWIFT BIC Code, Additional Requirements**
2. Complete the fields for the format you chose.
If you chose the account number format, both fields are required:
  - **Account Number**: Your account number.
  - **Routing Number**: The routing code for the account. For Mexico, enter the CLABE number here.
If you chose the IBAN format, the first two are required and the intermediary fields are optional:
  - **IBAN or Local Clearing Code**: For example, `CY17 0020 0128 0000 0012`.
  - **SWIFT BIC Code**: For example, `BUKBGB22`.
  - **Intermediary bank routing code/IBAN/reference**: For an intermediary or correspondent bank, if your bank uses one.
  - **Intermediary Bank SWIFT/BIC Code**: For the same intermediary or correspondent bank.
3. Complete the remaining fields, which appear for both formats and are both optional:
  - **Account Reference**: Some banks require a reference when receiving funds. Enter it here if your bank has given you one.
  - **Additional Requirements**: Any other detail your bank requires, such as a branch code.
4. Select **Next**.

### Step 5: Proof of account ownership

1. Upload proof that your organization owns the account: a bank statement showing the entity name, or a proof of ownership document from your bank.
2. Select **Add**.

The account now appears in the section for the product you chose.

## After you submit

To confirm the account was recorded as you intended, expand its card and check the details against your bank records.

Note two things about how the card displays them:

- The card lists every account detail field, so any field that does not apply to your account shows `N/A`. That is expected and does not mean something is missing.
- The account number, routing number, IBAN, and SWIFT BIC code are masked to their last four characters. Select the visibility icon beside a value to reveal it and check it in full.

If a detail is wrong, replace the account. Registered accounts cannot be edited.

## Remove a bank account

1. Select the **Settings** gear icon.
2. Under **Transfers**, select **Bank accounts**.
3. Expand the card for the account you want to remove and select the delete option.
4. Confirm the removal.

What happens next depends on the account:

- If this is the product's only account, you cannot remove it on its own. The dialog offers **Replace account** and takes you to the flow for adding the replacement.
- If the account is the product's redemption account and the product has other accounts, the dialog offers **Change redemption account** so you can designate a different one first.
- Otherwise, confirming the dialog removes the account.
