Overview

A connection links one of your Ripple Custody (Wallet) wallets to a decentralized application (dApp) or service through WalletConnect. The Connections feature provides an easy way to open and manage these links from the console.

WalletConnect allows dApps to interact with your digital asset wallets, giving them permission to initiate transactions on your behalf. This lets you use your wallets with:

  • DeFi protocols
  • NFT marketplaces
  • Other Web3 applications

However, WalletConnect always requests your approval before submitting any transactions and never gives dApps access to your private wallet keys. In other words, dApps cannot spend the funds in your wallet without your approval.

Key features:

  • WalletConnect integration: Connect to any WalletConnect-compatible dApp.
  • Secure authorization: All transactions require approval before execution.
  • Multiple connections: Open unlimited connections from your wallets.
  • Automatic expiration: A connection request that you don't confirm in time expires, and you need to open a new connection.

Availability

Users with the Viewer role don't see Connections. If you have another role and don't see Connections in the console, contact your Ripple representative to use it.

Open a new connection via the console

Required role: Owner, Administrator, or Proposer.

  1. Go to Connections, or open a wallet and select its Connections tab, and then select Open connection. There is no limit on the number of connections that can be opened.
  2. If you started from the Connections page, in the Select wallet dialog, select the wallet to open a connection from, and then select Continue.
  3. In another browser window, navigate to the dApp or service you wish to connect to and click ‘Connect a wallet’. Select the WalletConnect option and copy the Connect wallet link in the modal.
  4. In the Ripple Custody (Wallet) console, paste the link into the WalletConnect link field and select Continue.
  5. If the dApp or service is supported and the blockchain is compatible, you will be asked to confirm the connection
  6. Once confirmed, a connection will be opened between your wallet and the dApp
Limitation

WalletConnect is only supported on EVM compatible chains.

Submit transactions via connections

Prerequisite

As all WalletConnect transactions require approval, you must first create a default approval group.

  1. Once a connection is opened, the dApp will be able to view your wallet balance and initiate transactions.
  2. After a transaction is initiated by the dApp, an approval request will be sent to the default approval group via the Ripple Custody (Wallet) console and the Ripple Custody (Wallet) Mobile app (if set up).
  3. Once the required number of approvals is met, the transaction will be submitted to the blockchain. Any transactions submitted by the dApp can be viewed in the Transactions tab within each wallet, as usual.

Connection settings via the console

View connections via the console

Required role: Owner, Administrator, Proposer, Approver, or Auditor.

All open connections can be viewed from the Connections page. Connections can also be viewed and opened on an individual wallet basis in the Connections tab within each wallet.

To view all your organization's connections, go to Connections. The table lists each connection's Wallet, Dapp, Opened by, Opened on, and Status. You can sort by opened date or status.

To view one wallet's connections, open the wallet and select its Connections tab. The table lists each connection's Name, URL, Opened by, Opened on, and Status. For a connection that's still pending, the actions menu (three dots) offers View connection, which reopens the connection request.

Disconnect from a dApp or service via the console

Required role: Owner, Administrator, or Proposer.

If you are already in your wallet’s Connections tab, you can click on the 3 dots in the Actions section of the table to disconnect the wallet from the dApp.

Alternatively, if you are in the Connections page of the Ripple Custody (Wallet) console, you can click on the 3 dots in the Actions section of the table and either view the wallet, view the vault, or disconnect the wallet from the dApp.
