# Feature Specification: Verification of translated output before review

**Feature ID**: 006
**Status**: draft

## Overview

Six distinct classes of source-language text reached published translated pages during the
2026.03 release after the localization pass was believed complete. Every one was found by manual
inspection, and two only after a reader reported them.

## Functional Requirements

- **FR-001** When translated output is ready for review, the verifier shall check it against
every applicable quality rule.
- **FR-002** If output fails any quality rule, then the verifier shall withhold it from review.
- **FR-003** The verifier shall report any reader-visible segment in translated output that is
byte-identical to its source counterpart and absent from the keep-in-source list.
- **FR-004** While a reader-visible surface contains at least one segment reported under FR-003
and at least one segment that differs from its source, the verifier shall report that surface
as partially translated.
- **FR-005** The verifier shall report in-document references in translated content that do not
resolve.
- **FR-006** The verifier shall report structural divergence between source and translation,
including content unit count, markup, sample code, and table shape.

## Acceptance Criteria

- **006-translation-output-verification-AC-1** A segment byte-identical to its source and absent
from the keep-in-source list is withheld and named; a segment byte-identical to its source and
present on that list is not reported.
- **006-translation-output-verification-AC-2** A table column holding one segment reported under
FR-003 and one segment that differs from its source is withheld; a column whose identical
segments are all on the keep-in-source list is not.
- **006-translation-output-verification-AC-3** Output with a reference to a heading that no longer exists is withheld.
- **006-translation-output-verification-AC-4** Output that drops one markup tag relative to its source is withheld.
- **006-translation-output-verification-AC-5** Each rule has a test that fails when the defect is present and passes when it is not.

## Deferred Edge Cases

- **DEF-1** Semantic equivalence between source and translation. Deferred: not mechanically
checkable; this is what reviewers are for.
