# Mexico (MXN) Data Requirements

This page lists every data requirement for MXN payments to Mexico: the beneficiary and
originator identities, the beneficiary financial instrument, and the transaction itself.

Fields shown are those required for this corridor
The identity and financial instrument tables on this page list only the fields `MX_SPEI`
requires, taken from the PII v3 schema. Identities and financial instruments accept further
optional fields. For the complete set, see

## Beneficiary identity

Create the beneficiary identity before the financial instrument, then reference it when you
create the payment. See [Create and manage identities](/products/payments-direct-2/v2026.03/api-docs/developer-guides/create-and-manage-identities)
for the API workflow.

The required fields depend on whether the beneficiary is a **business** or an **individual**.

### Business beneficiary

Applies to the **B2B**, **B2B2B**, **C2B2B** use cases. Submit a `business` identity.

### Individual beneficiary

Applies to the **B2B2C**, **B2C**, **C2B2C** use cases. Submit an `individual` identity.

## Beneficiary financial instrument

Set `financialInstrumentType: MX_SPEI` and `currency: MXN`. Provide the following fields in the `mxSpei` payment rail object. See [Create and manage financial instruments](/products/payments-direct-2/v2026.03/api-docs/developer-guides/create-and-manage-financial-instruments) for the API workflow.

Routing is handled entirely by the 18-digit CLABE, which identifies the destination bank, branch, and account. No separate bank or branch code is required.

## Originator identity

Create the originator identity once and reuse it across payments.

The required fields depend on whether the originator is a **business** or an **individual**.

### Business originator

Applies to the **B2B**, **B2B2B**, **B2B2C**, **B2C** use cases. Submit a `business` identity.

## Transaction data requirements

The beneficiary and originator details come from the identities you create beforehand, and the bank details from the financial instrument. The only field you set on the payment itself for this corridor is below.

### Memo constraints

Only 40 characters of the memo are delivered to the beneficiary. You can send up to 140, and a memo longer than 40 characters is shortened to the first 40 before the payment is sent.

Memos over 40 characters are shortened without notice
No error is returned when a memo is shortened, and the payment succeeds. The beneficiary sees
only the first 40 characters on the SPEI record, so put the part the beneficiary needs for
reconciliation, such as an invoice number, at the start of the memo.

Characters outside letters, digits, and spaces are rejected rather than removed, and the payment fails. Keep punctuation such as hyphens and slashes out of the memo.
