# Lock assets

Transaction orders can broadcast transactions that contain unvalidated assets, including assets that were registered automatically from incoming transactions by Ripple Custody. You must lock any assets you do not want to use for transactions.

## Lock an asset

To lock an asset:

1. Navigate to **Assets**.
2. At the end of the asset row, click the contextual menu and select **Lock**.
3. Click **Submit for Approval** and [sign the operation with the app](/products/custody/v1.26/ui/get-started/key-operations/intent-signature).


The asset is locked when the intent is successfully executed.
