# Receive assets

You can receive assets to a Ripple Custody account from one of the following sources:

- An external counterparty on the same ledger.
- Another Ripple Custody account.


When Ripple Custody detects the incoming transaction, it internally creates the following entities, that you can use to track the operation:

- A transaction.
- One or more transfers.

The assets are added to your account balance but not available to use until you release them from quarantine. If Ripple Custody creates multiple transfers, you can choose which ones to release from quarantine.

For transfers from an account on a Bitcoin-type ledger, Ripple Custody automatically creates a new account address.

## Generate an address

This task is optional. You do not need to generate a new address to receive assets. In addition, when you receive assets to a Bitcoin account, Ripple Custody automatically generates a new address for you.

To generate a new address for your sending partner:

1. Navigate to **Accounts**.
2. Generate a new ledger address for the receiving account, as follows:
  1. Hover over the account and click **Receive transaction**. The Receive a transaction window is displayed.
  2. If this is a multi-ledger account, select the ledger.
Ripple Custody generates a new address both as a line item and QR code.


## Provide account details to your sending partner

To provide account details:

1. Navigate to **Accounts**.
2. Obtain account details, as follows:
  1. Hover over the account and click **Receive transaction**. The Receive a transaction window is displayed.
  2. If this is a multi-ledger account, select the ledger.
3. Copy the address or QR code and provide the information to your sending partner.


Your counterparty uses the ledger address to send assets to your account.

The assets appear in the transactions page with a **Quarantined** status. To finish the process, release the assets, as described below.

## Release quarantined assets

When the account receives an incoming transaction, the assets are not available to use until you release them from quarantine.

To release assets from quarantine:

1. Navigate to **Transactions**.
2. In the **Transactions** tab, click a transaction to view details of the transactions and transfers created for the transaction order.
3. In the **Transfers** tab, right-click the contextual menu at the end of the transfer and select **Release quarantined funds**.

The assets are released when the intent is successfully approved and executed.
